Okay, so you've decided to do the responsible thing and go sunless tanning instead of baking out by the pool like a salmon fillet. Now you're worried that your tan-in-a-bottle will rub off on your clothes, or even worse, your date! What could be more horrible than reaching in for a kiss and leaving a bright orange spot on his shirt?
The general rule with any kind of sunless tanning product or service is that the longer you have it on, the less chances you have of it rubbing off.
Products you buy and use at home have specific directions. Read them carefully and follow them to a tee. If the directions tell you to sit still for 30 minutes until the product dries, chances are that it will rub off on the clothing you're wearing for those 30 minutes. Many times you're not supposed to shower for several hours after application, so make sure you aren't going anywhere and that you get into some old clothes that you won't be sorry to throw away.
Sunless tanning services you receive at salons are generally made to dry quicker and last longer than products made for use in the home. Spray tans require a short wait time of 1 minute before you can get re-dressed and head home. Rub off for these, even on your clothing, is minimal if at all.
'The Main Rule' on keeping your sunless tan on your skin is to shower before you get yourself ready. You can usually do this several hours or the morning after application. This will remove the bronzers in the color and leave you with a natural-looking and semi-permanent glow. After one shower, your tan should still be there and you should have absolutely no worries of your tan rubbing off on clothing or other people. If your tan disappears in the shower or rubs off anywhere by chance, seriously consider using another product or salon.
